In Luke 21:25 Jesus warned his disciples about disasters and distress of nations before the day of his return and as we look around at what is happening in the world, we can certainly see the figurative sea and the waves roaring as nations go to war with each other and men’s hearts fail them for fear as they see what is happening. So, are we really ready for Christ’s return? Am I ready for Christ’s return? As a disciple of Christ, we should be always ready watching and waiting for our Lord’s return. If we have not committed ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ, should we not be thinking that perhaps we should change how we live now and make that commitment?

As a Bible reader and a believer in the literal return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth I have recently been thinking about what is likely to happen and how to prepare for being taken to Judgement. We are told in 2 Peter 3:10 and Revelation 16:15 that Jesus will “…come as a thief”; unexpectedly. Where might I be at that instant? At the meeting room in Shrewsbury? At home? At a party over the festive period perhaps? In the wrong company? We are reminded to come out and be separate from the world.

What about if I am in bed, asleep. Shall I have time to wash, dress and get ready? We know that Philip was taken away from the Ethiopian eunuch immediately. The same meaning is used of being taken to judgement. So, will I have time to say goodbye to loved ones? Will I need to take my Bible with me?

So, what can I do by way of preparation? I must endeavour to be like the five wise virgins who had spare oil in their lamps and were prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival and not as one of the five foolish virgins, who had to go out and buy oil and, on their return, found the door shut.

Perhaps it might be time for you to think about making that commitment to God and His son the Lord Jesus Christ who was crucified so that you might have the opportunity of living for ever.
