In October we begin to read from the book of Daniel with our daily Bible readings, where we are reminded about the time of the end in Chapter 11. But Chapter 12 commences with the resurrection and judgement of the dead.

All through scripture we are reminded of the separation to take place at the judgement, be it sheep and goats, wise and foolish virgins, or the faithful and unfaithful servants, etc. In this chapter (v2) we are told the filtering will entail ‘some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt’.

All through scripture there has always only ever been a faithful few. With that in mind how do we become a part of that group of faithful men and women? The Bible tells us that we have to believe in God and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ and then be baptised. Having done that we must then live lives that please God so that we remain faithful to the end and become one of the few saved.

In v3 we read ‘and they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament’. What a wonderful hope that can give us in a world which is full of darkness. In John’s gospel and chapter 3 Jesus says that those who work evil hate the light that God brought into this world through His Son.

We are all sinners and fall short of the standard that God expects, so we are totally reliant on his grace at the judgement seat. No one can earn salvation. But it demonstrates our commitment to God and his work.

The time is now truly short. We pray that we may be among the faithful few. Our day of opportunity is now.
