AS IN THE DAYS

Events in the world are rapidly changing, aren’t they? At the moment, Ukraine seems to have the upper hand against the Russian forces and is pushing them back; Donald Trump is thinking about running for President again; we have a power crisis where people don’t know whether they can afford to pay their bills; inflation is rising; mortgages are going up. On top of all this we have a society that is getting more immoral, more violent, and generally more godless. So, what do we make of all this?

As we read our Bibles, we are given a different insight into the future of the world. Yes, we might be saddened with some of the events that have happened or are still going on, but our attitude should not be of despair, for the Bible tells us that we are living in the last days and soon the Lord Jesus Christ will return to set up God’s Kingdom on this earth. Let’s just see what Matthew says in his gospel and chapter 24; “…as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be, for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark….so also will the coming of the Son of man be”. What Jesus is describing here is a world that has no time for God. A world that is more interested in living for the moment to the exclusion of God.  Does that sound familiar? Do you not think Jesus is describing the world that we live in?  So, how can we make ourselves ready so that we are not taken unawares when Jesus returns?

Well, the scriptures can help us and prepare us, but it is up to us as to how we react. Let’s just look at what Jesus says to His disciples after He is resurrected. He appears to the eleven and rebukes them because they; “…did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen”. Jesus then commands them to: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved: but he who does not believe will be condemned”. Jesus leaves us in no doubt here, does he when He says; “…he who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned”.

If we want to be in that wonderful kingdom that Jesus will set up on this earth, then we have to believe and be baptised and then live a life trying to follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s quite simple really. Jesus is coming back when we least expect it, which is why we need to be preparing for His soon return.
