What is Prophecy? According to a dictionary it is “a prediction of what will happen in the future.”

In the Holy Bible there are many prophecies written down. A great deal of these have occurred. But there are still many to be fulfilled in the future.

For example, the first half of the Bible predicted the Lord Jesus Christ’s birth, suffering, death, and resurrection. In fact, much of the Old Testament scripture, pointed towards him and his redeeming work.

Jesus told his disciples he would be leaving them and going to his Father (God), which he did. As soon he left earth, angels told his disciples he would be returning to earth to establish God kingdom at some point in time. Jesus had also told his disciples about this and what the conditions would be like on earth just before he came back. This is known as the Olivet prophecy and can be found in Matthew Ch 24 & Luke Ch 21. There are a lot of things which Jesus said that are still to take place in the future.

How can we be sure that Jesus is going to return at some point? God has given us so many examples in the Bible which were prophesied to occur long before they took place. In other words, we can have faith that what is still to occur in the future will take place, in God good time. It is our faith that pleases God.

The latter part of this prophecy involves the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth to set up God’s Kingdom. God wants everyone to have a part in his Kingdom: – 2 Peter Ch 3 v 9

“He isn’t really being slow about his promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But he is waiting, for the good reason that he is not willing that any should perish, and he is giving more time for sinners to repent.” (Living Bible)
